Macron will meet his US counterpart Donald Trump for the first time at an informal lunch later that will immediately test his diplomatic skills, given the unpredictable nature of the USA leader.
France's new president is seeking to extend the country's state of emergency until at least November 1, according to a statement from the president's office. As the two met for the first time today in Brussels, Macron grabbed on Trump's hand as hard as Trump himself would, and wouldn't let go before Trump did.
Trump told Macron it was an honour to be with him, saying he had run "an incredible campaign and had a tremendous victory".
"I am very happy to be with President Trump", said Emmanuel Macron, referring to the wide range of topics on the agenda: the fight against terrorism and "climate and energy issues".
But once on foreign soil, Trump has lost his own game twice in a week, during his first overseas as president.

The conservative Republicans party was seen winning 19 percent of the vote, just barely ahead of Le Pen's National Front, which was at 18 percent.
It comes after the Monday night suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, northern England, that left 22 persons dead.
