Premiums on average would fall compared with President Barack Obama's health care overhaul - a chief goal of many Republicans - but that would be partly because policies would typically provide fewer benefits, said the report by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

Until the vote on the bill, Kinzinger, whose 16th Congressional District includes La Salle County, had listed himself as undecided. Because of those policies' skimpy coverage, the CBO doesn't count those people as insured in this report.

Enacting the AHCA would reduce direct spending by $1,111 billion and reduce revenues by $992 billion, for a net reduction of $119 billion in the Federal deficit over the 2017-2026 period. Now Republicans in the Senate have to decide how to make their version different.

Both concluded that the legislation would increase the number of uninsured Americans by 24 million over a decade, a mammoth number that contributed to GOP defections that thwarted House passage until they narrowly approved revised legislation this month.
