Meadows, whose caucus had been instrumental in shaping the Obamacare replacement bill, signaled that he was open to adding more funding to the health care proposal in order to protect Americans with pre-existing conditions, The Washington Examiner reports.

"This is about politics for my Republican colleagues, but it has life-or-death consequences for far too many Americans", said U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth of Louisville.

"In reality, Americans are paying more for fewer healthcare choices because of Obamacare - and that's why the Trump administration is committed to reforming healthcare". But for people with medical conditions, or older insurance buyers, premiums will be "extremely high", according to the CBO. In contrast, under the House's alternative, the CBO predicts that about one-sixth of the population would reside "in areas in which the nongroup market would start to become unstable beginning in 2020".

"We are on a rescue mission to bring down the cost of coverage and make sure families have access to affordable care".

Premiums on average would fall compared with President Barack Obama's health care overhaul - a chief goal of many Republicans - but that would be partly because policies would typically provide fewer benefits, said the report by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

Until the vote on the bill, Kinzinger, whose 16th Congressional District includes La Salle County, had listed himself as undecided. Because of those policies' skimpy coverage, the CBO doesn't count those people as insured in this report.

Enacting the AHCA would reduce direct spending by $1,111 billion and reduce revenues by $992 billion, for a net reduction of $119 billion in the Federal deficit over the 2017-2026 period. Now Republicans in the Senate have to decide how to make their version different.

"Regardless of any CBO score, it's no secret Obamacare is collapsing under its own weight", Georgia Sen. The bill would hit the vulnerable especially hard: "The increase would be disproportionately larger among older people with lower income-particularly people between 50 and 64 years old", said the CBO. But Senate Republicans will have to pass their version of the bill and will likely face more questions about its effects after this report.

Democratic lawmakers have attacked the changes, maintaining they are created to victimize people with serious health problems that require expensive medical care.

That was a knock on 11th-hour changes Republicans made in the bill to gain conservatives' votes by letting states get waivers to boost premiums on the ill and reduce coverage requirements. Susan Collins of ME has convened bipartisan talks with about a dozen senators. "The AHCA does not". But after that very bad CBO score, some in the Senate don't want anything to do with it.

Committee and leadership staffers will begin writing legislation when senators are in their home states during the Memorial Day recess, said Sen.

"The AHCA is a first step, but not the solution; now the Senate is doing its own work to put forth its own ideas that could work for states like Nevada", Heller said.

The top-line numbers in the CBO score are bad enough, but they are more than just numbers and this report underscores the real-life impact the legislation could have on poor children. Both concluded that the legislation would increase the number of uninsured Americans by 24 million over a decade, a mammoth number that contributed to GOP defections that thwarted House passage until they narrowly approved revised legislation this month.
