Earthquake with magnitude 6.6 hits Luzon island Philippines'

The strong but deep natural disaster struck the early in the afternoon, but there were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries.

MANILA, Philippines -Fear was apparent in the faces of employees in different government offices this afternoon when a magnitude 6.3 quake rocked Batangas, and was felt in Metro Manila.

The epicentre was 16 kilometres southwest of Batangas province's resort town of Nasugbu, which is around 65 kilometres southwest of Manila.

No tsunami warning was issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, which put the magnitude of the quake at 6.3, and said it expected aftershocks. Deeper epicenters often cause less damage at the Earth's surface, though they can be widely felt.

ABS-CBN television also showed photos of students stood outside schools.

"It wasn't really that strong".

The country is located in the Pacific "Ring of Fire", where about 90 per cent of the world's earthquakes occur.

People rushed out of homes, offices and commercial buildings in Manila, where the quake was felt at intensity 4.

In February, a 6.5-magnitude quake killed eight people and left more than 250 injured outside the southern city of Surigao.
