However, Koeman denies that negotiations have broken down, and insists that Everton still have a good chance of landing the 28-year-old this summer.

"I have just met with the players to talk about or objectives for the season and those objectives are very clear", said the Swans manager.

'He's happy here, he likes the work we're doing and he likes the way we play.

"It lost individuals when I was there, players moved on, but the strength of Swansea is it's one team with one club". "He will not be in the squad".

"Gylfi is an outstanding player and if he was to go I know it would be with a heavy heart", Rodgers said.

"One of the reasons I don't want to talk about other names is because unless something is done with Gylfi's situation there is no point saying anything".

"Although this situation has dragged on it has not changed my focus about working with the players".

Van Dijk's future is very much up in the air and as a result he hasn't featured once in pre-season, meaning the unorthodox pairing of Maya Yoshida and Jack Stephens will likely start at the back.

Even though Everton have had bids of £40m and £45m rejected by Swansea for Sigurdsson, Koeman thinks they are "close" to hammering out a deal while Swansea apparently want a swift resolution at this point as well.

However Swansea manager Clement is confident the former Sevilla player will remain at the Liberty Stadium, despite Chelsea's interest.

"We've got a number of weeks to go and I don't anticipate it going to the end of the window".

'It is always a game between the buying club and the selling club but we are close and let's hope we get the agreement as soon as possible.

But having signed Michael Keane from Burnley in a £30 million (A$49.44 million) deal when the England defender was in the final year of his deal at Turf Moor, Koeman sees no reason for Everton not to expect the same from other clubs.
