Jose Mourinho's men begun last season's Premier League campaign well, claiming three straight wins, but following a far from smooth pre-season they quickly slumped to sixth spot by late September. 'He is not ready to play tomorrow.

"He was very clear, by showing what he did past year, that it was not enough for him", Mourinho told reporters on Friday.

On the prospect of re-signing Ibrahimovic once the 35-year-old striker has recovered, Mourinho said: "We are having conversations and discussing the possibility of him staying for the second part of the season".

Other clubs are also showing an interest in Ibrahimovic and the Swede has been linked with a move to the MLS with Los Angeles Galaxy, while another of him former clubs in the shape of AC Milan are keen to give him the platform for one last hurrah. He thinks he can do more. I'm happy with the club's efforts.

Mourinho says he is after another player "coming from the sides" to complete his summer business - leaving the door open for either a winger or a full-back. I will go with what I have to try to win everything.

"I am really happy to start the Premier League this weekend because our pre-season was very complete in a way where we start playing against Major League Soccer teams and we end it playing against the best teams in Europe", he said. But as we prepare for our all-important opener against Manchester United, we need to reflect on last season's opener against Chelsea, more importantly, how prepared we were. Manchester United, Southampton, Cheltenham Town (Carabao Cup) and Newcastle United will see the first team travelling from one end of the country to the other as they play football away from home, but the side has a couple of weeks reprieve as we do have an global break as well as our first Home game against Huddersfield Town, but we're on the road again as we travel to the Midlands for a League clash against West Brom.

"If we cannot strengthen the team in these areas we have players that we can trust".
