OnePlus Confirms Android O is Last Big Update for OP3/3T ...

OnePlus-3T-FI

OnePlus' track record with software support for its devices has been decent for some products, and very bad for others (remember the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X?). He has thus revealed that Android O will be the last major update headed to the OnePlus 3 and 3T, with security patches and individual app updates coming "for the foreseeable future".

The company kept the name with the newly released OnePlus 5 as well as the recent flagship has been receiving updates right from the day one.

From here, Oliver goes on to say that the company will also be stopping the Open Beta Program for the 3/3T after Android O and use it exclusively for the OnePlus 5.

Following the launch of new OnePlus 5 in June this year, the owners of OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T were left quite perplexed as to whether their devices, now the older models, would continue getting software updates from the company.

While the advent of Android O update is indeed a good news for the anxious OnePlus 3/3T owners, the confirmed dearth of updates, following that will surely discourage many.

For comparison, Apple is still supporting ancient devices and the iPhone 5S, released four years ago in 2013, is expected to get the iOS 11 update this year. "After the OP3/3T have been updated to Android O, we'll start moving the Open Beta Program from OP3/3T to OP5". Another question asks about security updates and they're told that due to a delay in OxygenOS 4.5 for the OP3/3T these security patches for August will be pushed "soon" by themselves and without the big 4.5 update.
