Trump speaks with Guam governor amid North Korea threat

President Trump called the governor of Guam on Friday and reassured the residents saying

A video shared by Guam's Office of Civil Defence captured a phone call between Guam's Governor Eddie Baza Calvo and the United States president.

"The U.S. President at [golf] links again let out a load of nonsense about 'fire and fury, ' failing to grasp the ongoing grave situation", a commander of the North Korean army said, as reported by CNN.

This week Pyongyang's state-run news agency said its army would complete plans in mid-August to fire four intermediate-range missiles over Japan to land near Guam, a USA territory and military base, amid increasingly heated rhetoric over the North Korea's nuclear weapons program.

President Trump called the governor of Guam on Friday and reassured the residents, saying: "We are with you 1000 percent."

"They should have had me eight years ago, or at least somebody with my thought process", Trump said.

"Tourism - I can say this - you're going to go up ten-fold, with the expenditure of no money...."

President Trump said: "You are safe".

Calvo concurred, giving Trump a tourism pitch and describing it as "paradise".

"Mr. President, as the governor of Guam, representing the people of Guam, and as an American citizen, I have never felt more safe or so confident, with you at the helm", Calvo responded. "But you'll be taken care of". All over the world they're talking about Guam.

"If he utters one threat in the form of an overt threat - which, by the way, he has been uttering for years, and his family has been uttering for years - or if he does anything with respect to Guam or any place else that's an American territory or an American ally, he will truly regret it, and he will regret it fast", the president said. He doesn't talk so much more anymore and we'll see how it all works out. "But regardless, our military is so incredible, and there's no partisanship there, believe me".

"We are the best in the world by a factor of five", he says. "I'll talk to you anytime you need, and again, it looks like just a attractive place".

While Guam is generally calm about the escalating threats of a missile attack, some were not thrilled by the tone of the conversation between the two men.
