Shikhar Dhawan hammered a heroic 119 runs while Lokesh Rahul added 85 runs as they added 188 runs on the first wicket partnership for the visiting side. End of what turned out to be a terrific day for the Indians, who dominated in all departments, and look set to wrap the match up on the third day.

Dhawan went past his fifty with a boundary in the 18th over and soon Rahul completed his own two overs later.

India had resumed the game on the second day of the test from 329/6, but as the day started, the team started losing its batsmen.

Following wins inside four days in Galle and Colombo, the world's top-ranked side have an unassailable 2-0 lead and the injury-hit hosts face another stiff task against Kohli's men in the finale.

It was after their dismissals that the pattern of play changed, as Sri Lanka wended their way back into the contest with repeated strikes through Pushpakumara and Lakshan Sandakan, the chinaman bowler.

Both Dhawan, who made his sixth Test century and his second of the series, and KL Rahul, who was his partner in that opening salvo, were dismissed my Malinda Pushpakumara, the left-arm spinner, playing their strokes.

In a rare good show with the ball, Sri Lanka fought hard in the last two sessions of the day's play to walk away with equal, if not more, share of honours.

Virat Kohli and his boys will be aiming for their first ever series whitewash in Sri Lanka when they take on the hosts in the third and the final Test at Pallekele, starting on Saturday.

Rahul, who also has four Test centuries to his name, was often criticised early in his Test career for his inconsistency has definitely turned a new leaf in what is still a very young and promising Test career.

Dhawan though stayed and scored his second hundred of this series off 107 balls.

For Sri Lanka, Pushpakumara scalped 3 wickets, while Sandakan took 2 wickets and Fernando one.

Kohli and Rahane were then tasked with stabilizing the innings, which they did, ensuring no more wickets were lost as the team headed into Tea.

Vishwa Fernando, playing his second Test a year after his debut, also snared Ravichandran Ashwin (31) caught behind at full stretch by Niroshan Dickwella to give Sri Lanka another late lift.

That brought Pandya, unbeaten on one overnight, and Umesh together for the last wicket, allowing the former a license to free his bat in search of quick runs.
