The driver of a Porsche Boxster Spyder accelerated quickly through a turn and careened off the road and onto a sidewalk around 11 a.m. after a monthly Cars and Coffee meetup, police said.
Police weren't aware of the vehicle show until calls about the crash came in, he said.
On Saturday, a group of automotive enthusiasts hosted this season's, but final "Cars and Coffee" event.
Eyewitness video of the incident showed the Porsche spinning sideways before striking pedestrians. Six of those injured were transported to the hospital via ambulance and two went to the hospital in a private vehicle.
Boise Police say that while the investigation is ongoing, preliminary information shows that the driver of the Porsche was accelerating rapidly as he left the auto show onto eastbound Overland Road, lost control, and ran into the crowd.
Adding that the driver lost control "while going too fast", went up over the foot path and onto some grass where onlookers were sitting. People especially stopped by to see Cameron Moore and his Pro1 auto.
The Porche driver, who was unhurt, is cooperating with investigators.
Eastbound Overland Road remains closed from Entertainment Way to Cole Road. Boise Fire and Ada County Paramedics immediately responded to the incident.
"The investigation is ongoing, once it's complete the investigation will be forwarded to the prosecutor for possible charges", the Boise Police Department Twitter post says.
