Cowboys Unstoppable Take 35-0 Lead Early In Second
Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph made a strong statement to Heisman voters and National Football League scouts Saturday, throwing for 423 yards and five touchdowns in the first half as the visiting Cowboys crushed Pittsburgh 59-21.
Rudolph passed for 423 yards in the first half, the most yards thrown in a half in school history.
Rudolph completed 23 of 32 passes for 497 yards before being pulled in the middle of the third quarter with the Cowboys (3-0) in full command. Pitt didn't get a defensive stop until Rudolph kneeled down to end the first half. By that time, Rudolph will hopefully have gotten his due. "That's always our approach". He just made a lot of plays. Rudolph connected with Jalen McCleskey for three scores and also hit Dillon Stoner and Marcell Ateman for TDs.
The 69-yarder to Marcel Ateman showed Rudolph's escapability. He finished with four catches for 109 yards.
Had mulleted coach Mike Gundy left Rudolph in the game longer, it could have been even more ridiculous. The senior quarterback completed 20-of-28 passes in the half and found three different receivers for his five touchdowns - none named James Washington.
Last year, the Pitt Panthers knocked off the eventual national champions. That opened up things for McCleskey and company on the inside.
"We have a decision to make", Panthers coach Pat Narduzzi said. However, as good as Mayfield has been, he might not be the best quarterback in his own state. The Pitt running game was mostly bottled up, with starter Qadree Ollison held to 6 yards on seven carries.
The Oklahoma State football team didn't waste any time with the Pittsburgh Panthers this week.
Oklahoma State: DE DeQuinton Osborne. The Cowboys did it despite missing LSU transfer Tyron Johnson, suspended for the game for a violation of team rules.
