We have five confirmed deaths at this facility.

Emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from the facility at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, according to a Hollywood Police Department spokesperson. They don't sweat as much, they are more likely to have medical conditions that change how the body responds to heat, and they are more likely to take medication that affects body temperature.

"Most of the patients have been treated for respiratory distress, dehydration and heat-related issues", Randy Katz, a spokesman for Memorial Regional Hospital, told reporters.

Wrong was the fact that 5 elderly women and 3 men died in a hot nursing home just yards away from a hospital but it's what happens next the entire state needs to make sure it gets right. The Greater Miami Jewish Federation encouraged people to evacuate before the storm if they could, but now the group has shifted its focus to checking on them and bringing supplies to their homes, said CEO Jacob Solomon.

Scott on Saturday blamed the nursing home for what he described as its failure to protect life. He later met with local officials and first responders in Fort Myers and Naples to hear of the impacts of Hurricane Irma firsthand.

President Donald Trump touched down in Florida Thursday to highlight and praise Hurricane Irma recovery efforts in the state he's called a "second home". Police officials said other patients were in critical care. As of Wednesday, almost 60 percent of customers had electricity restored, according to Florida Power & Light.

On Wednesday, four days after the storm made landfall, eight people died at a Hollywood, Florida nursing home after its air conditioning unit stopped working.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which regulates nursing homes, gives the Hollywood centre a below-average rating, two stars on its five-star scale. Police say three patients died at the facility and three at a hospital.

Dozens of the state's senior centers still lacked electricity in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, and several facilities were forced to evacuate. Police are going to the 42 other assisted living facilities in the area to check on those other residents.

In the days before Irma hit, FPL warned residents to prepare to be without power for a few weeks - FPL yesterday promised customers on the East Coast that power would be restored by Sunday, but Broward officials are now asking FPL to focus on restoring power to hospitals and nursing homes as fast as possible.

She said some of the 15,000 residents at Century Village were vulnerable and "we are concerned about their welfare".
