Daley Blind is calling on his Manchester United team mates to 'step up' after Paul Pogba's injury rules him out

Jose Mourinho has described Manchester United's record goalscorer Wayne Rooney as "a legend for this club" ahead of his first return to Old Trafford on Sunday.

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has fired a warning to Premier League rivals saying the league leaders have plenty of goalscorers to fuel their attacking style this season.

The ex-Reds striker, who netted 253 goals during his 13-year career with United, bid farewell in the summer to rejoin old club Everton.

Koeman, whose team has made a slow start to the campaign and visits United on Sunday, said replacing Lukaku was always going to be a huge ask.

"The way they live, the way they train, the way everything is simple for them, I see them as kids".

"I think that we paid the money that Everton asked for and we paid the player the wages that his agent asked for and we paid the agents the commission that they asked for".

The 24-year-old's missed transfer almost caused a crisis at Stamford Bridge, with Antonio Conte reportedly very frustrated at the Pensioners' failure to land Lukaku.

I think this Premier League is much more defensive-minded, and much more hard.

"He's not a bargain because we paid what Everton asked", he says.

"When you speak about economic power, it is not just to buy but to keep players and say, "No, we don't sell".

But Mourinho believes his former club lost out to United as they refused to pay the 24-year-old's asking price. With Romelu my club chose to pay and they got him'.

"With Romelu we had enough fights about how he needs to press, how he needs to run, how he needs to move but in the box, with opportunities to score, he is one of the best".

"When I arrived in the first season there was already investments made in buying players, changing the squad, selling players, that you probably would have done in a different way".
