In a massive setback to Nawaz Sharif, the Pakistan Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the review petitions filed by the deposed Prime Minister and his children against the July 28 Panama Papers judgement.

"Do you accept this unjust verdict", She asked the NA-120 voters, adding "If you are against the verdict then vote for lion on September 17".

The stage is set for a major political battle between the PML-N and the PTI in the by-election in NA-120 constituency of Lahore today.

NA-120 was left vacant after the disqualification of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif by the top court and now his wife is running for for the seat.

The polling will conclude at 5pm.

The by-election is being contested by Begum Kulsoom Nawaz of PML-N, Dr Yasmin Rashid of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Faisal Mir of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Advocate Ziauddin Ansari of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), among others.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has set up 220 polling stations for the voters. There are more than 320,000 registered voters in the constituency.

Reacting to the ruling, 43-year-old Maryam, a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, said revenge was taken in the name of accountability. Sharif had won the National Assembly (NA) seat from the area for the first time in 1985.

Kulsoom is in London where she is undergoing treatment for her throat cancer.

"Support Nawaz, support progress", Maryam said to PML-N supporters.

Rashid says her contest is not against Kulsoom but the federal and provincial governments of the PML-N and the Sharif family. Imran Khan also took part in the electioneering by chairing a public meeting in the constituency on September 14. Both these candidates have big following on the basis of their respective school of thought and this election will also give them count of the respective vote bank for their future politics.
