This undated picture released from North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on September 16, 2017 shows a launching drill of the medium-and-long range strategic ballistic rocket Hwasong-12 at an undisclosed location. "We condemn in the strongest terms, the ballistic missile launch of 15 September 2017 conducted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in a reckless and provocative manner, disregarding regional and global security and stability", the statement said released by the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Friday.

Tekeda Alemu, Ethiopian ambassador to the United Nations and the president of UN Security Council for the month of September, addresses a press encounter after UN Security Council closed-door consultations at the UN headquarters in NY, on Sept 15, 2017.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron also denounced the new missile launch by North Korea and called for the resumption of "direct talks" to address the Korean Peninsula issue during a phone conversation, the Kremlin press service said.

"The Secretary-General calls on the DPRK leadership to cease further testing, comply with the relevant Security Council resolutions, and allow space to explore the resumption of honest dialogue on denuclearization", said Dujarric.

Cayetano will consult with other foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in NY to discuss what Asean can do to help reduce tensions in the Korean Peninsula.

On Friday, September 15, North Korea fired a ballistic missile over Japan and into the Pacific Ocean after the UN Security Council imposed an 8th set of sanctions against it. Pyongyang said the missile contained a small hydrogen bomb.

The Asean foreign ministers are scheduled to meet next week in NY and are expected to have a dialogue with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres at the sidelines of the UN general assembly.

"Our Embassy in Tokyo and Consulate General in Osaka are closely monitoring the situation and are regularly providing updates to the Filipino community", said Cayetano.

To ease tensions, China has been committed to a peaceful solution by supporting Security Council sanctions on one hand, and on the other proposing initiatives which aim to suspend hostilities by both Pyongyang and Washington.
