Indian telecom operator Bharti Airtel has selected Karbonn Mobiles to launch affordable 4G smartphone in India
Needless to say, Airtel has teamed up with Karbonn to launch Karbonn A40 Indian 4G smartphone to counter the JioPhone. The alliance between Airtel and Karbonn is part of Airtel?s Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone initiative, and more handset makers will be added to the program in due course. The "cash refunds" will be made in the form of payments to the user's Airtel Payments Bank account.
In a related development, British telecom giant Vodafone and India's Idea, in their bid to consolidate their market share with the advent of Reliance Jio are merging into a single brand and also planning to bring Airtel Karbonn A40 Indian-like budget smartphone to take on the Reliance JioPhone.
Now if I talk about the phone, Karbonn A40 Indian comes with 4-inch WVGA touch display and runs on Android Nougat. It ships with a 1400 mAh battery which Karbonn claims can offer standby time of 200 hours and talk-time of up to 4 hours. The device offers a single SIM card slot with 4G LTE and VoLte capability. The processor is supported by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. So, besides the smartphone upfront cost of Rs 2899, the customer needs to spend Rs 6084 in next three years to acquire the phone for Rs 1399.
