Browns announce Kevin Hogan will start, DeShone Kizer to be backup
11 October 2017, 07:53 | Anna Jefferson
Browns quarterback Kevin Hogan will start this week for Cleveland and likely for the foreseeable future. More
Kevin Hogan will be the 28th different starting quarterback for the Browns since 1999 when he takes his first snap on Sunday in Houston, after coach Hue Jackson announced Wednesday that DeShone Kizer has been replaced as his starting quarterback. Rookie first-round pick DeShone Kizer, who started the first five games, will be his backup.
Jackson said: "I've made the decision to start Kevin this week". "He has worked extremely hard and still very much has a bright future".
The Cleveland Browns have decided to make a change at quarterback in the wake of some of the struggles that rookie DeShone Kizer has had in the early part of the season.
Jackson had gone to Kizer as his starter when the season began, saying he would stick with the rookie through all growing pains.
Hogan, a fifth-round draft pick past year out of Stanford, becomes the 28th quarterback to start a game for the Browns since their rebirth in 1999. He completed five of 11 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown against the Ravens while Kizer recovered from a migraine. "The more time you can work together, the better you're going to be, in general". Hogan completed 16-of-19 passes for two touchdowns and an interception after taking over. For the season, he is 26 of 38 for 377 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions, and a passer rating of 104.8.
