Instagram DOWN: Social network NOT WORKING in the UK, as users struggle to load app

Facebook and Instagram are down for thousands of users across the US and UK according to reports. The issue appears to be widespread with reports of outage popping up in Brazil Japan India and parts of Europe

Users report being unable to use the website and other users report the website's functionality such as the "post" box was not working.

Social networking giant Facebook and its subsidiary Instagram on Wednesday suffered a massive outage in different parts of the world. Facebook says "We are now experiencing an increased level of API errors".

Naturally, many people took to Twitter to query what was wrong with Facebook (and express their anguish through gifs).

Services tied to Facebook, like SocialFlow, have reported issues with the platform's publishing API, too.

One person revived the oft-made joke that social media going down would force people to go outside.

Down Detector said about 40 percent of those reporting outages were experiencing a total blackout on the site, starting around 11 a.m. ET. The hashtag #facebookdown is a trending search term in the U.S.

A number of users, who couldn't log in to Facebook, received a message, "Facebook will be back soon".

Some Instagram users also had issues accessing their profiles.
