Managing Director of Facebook India and South Asia Umang Bedi has stepped down from his position, the social media giant announced today. He has alsobeen associated with HT Media and Hindustan Unilever.Bedi had joined Facebook in July previous year, taking over the India business from Kirthiga Reddy who moved to thecompany's headquarters in Menlo Park, the US. "He's built a really strong team and business during his time with us, and we wish him all the best", a spokesperson for the company told Gadgets 360.

Bedi took over from Kirthiga Reddy, who returned to the U.S. to head the Global Accounts team at Facebook's Menlo Park headquarters. Bedi was appointed in 2016 after serving as Managing Director of the South Asia region at Adobe.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Bhushan joined Facebook in April 2015 from Samsung Electronics.

Under his leadership, Facebook revealed a three-fold business strategy for India. Sandeep Bhushan has been appointed as the interim Managing Director. He is now developing strategies and partnerships for the social media platform. He said, "It has been a phenomenal one and a half years at Facebook". According to a report a year ago Bedi's mission was to make Facebook relevant for businesses.

As of 13 July, Facebook reported a total "potential audience" of 241 million active users in India, compared with 240 million in the US.

These efforts seem to have come to fruition, now that India has overtaken the USA to become the social networking platform's largest country-based audience.

At a time when Facebook is moving rapidly towards expansion in India and Southeast Asia, how the exit of Managing Director Umang Bedi will affect the social media company's growth is something that will become apparent in the coming months.
