Amazon Alexa now recognizes your voice
12 October 2017, 01:20 | Joann Bryant
To set things up you'll need to head into the Alexa app and set up voice profiles for the smart speaker.
Amazon today announced that Alexa-enabled devices are now able to recognize unique human voices, giving the assistant the power to deliver personalized experiences when it hears you speak. You'll be asked to choose an Alexa-powered device to train with, and then once you've read out ten sample phrases the profile is complete. Now, Alexa is catching up with Home, and today it's brought over one of Home's best new features - multi-user support. Amazon says voice recognition will get "smarter over time" the more it's used.
The ultimate feature would of course be if Amazon's camera equipped devices could recognise when you are in the room and offer you notifications and information. Instructions on various ways to create a voice profile can be seen in this Amazon video.
In Amazon Music, if you have a family plan subscription, each person with their own account will have their own personalized music recommendations. For instance, if I tell Alexa simply to "play music", she'll start playing songs based on my preferences. You'll go to your account settings and tap Your Voice, then tap on your profile name. Once you've trained Alexa, she'll store your voice recognition info in the cloud, which means that it'll automatically apply to any other Alexa devices you purchase in the future.
