Girls in Boy Scouts? What DFW scouting leaders are saying

"What are they gonna change it to just Scouts now?" he said. "To do my duty to God and my country".

"We tried the Girl Scouts when she was younger and it just didn't work out for her - it's not what I expected it to be", she said. "If she does the same stuff, why shouldn't she get a merit badge?"

"It's really fun to be with other girls and boys", Jason's daughter Megan said.

The organization announced Wednesday that girls will be able to join Cub Scouts and eventually achieve the highest rank of Eagle Scout.

On the BSA website, a press release explains, most families are dual-earners and there are more single-parent households than ever before making convenient programs that serve the whole family more appealing.

"I think it's exciting". But I think it's a start. "We really focus on girls and we're doing awesome things".

The organization says the change comes after years of requests from families and girls. "We have the experience, we have the expertise, we have the data-backed programming that is designed specifically for the needs and interests of girls", said Kristi Osterlund, Montana Girl Scout. Williams said. "When we raise a society of youth. that are focused on God, country and self, along with being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent, we create hope for this great nation".

Both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts have had to adapt to changing times.

The Girl Scouts of the United States of America said the move strains the century-old bond between the two organizations.

Girls will be able to join the Boy Scouts staring in 2018. He expressed enthusiasm at the possibility that the changes could draw hundreds of thousands more girls into BSA ranks over the coming years.

"I don't think we have to wake up tomorrow feeling challenged that the boy scouts are going to offer something the girl scouts are not offering".

"The girls scout research institute is not the only organization that has done research on singular gender environments".

The Girl Scouts, founded in 1912, and the BSA, founded in 1910, are among several major youth organizations in the US experiencing sharp drops in membership in recent years.

Stone said they have reached out to their scouting family for several months to get their opinions about expanding the program to include girls. From a peak of over 5 million members in the 1970's there are now under two and a half million boys in scouting.
