Amazon announce new waterproof Kindle Oasis
Pre-orders for the new device start on November 15 on Amazon India.
"With a larger 7-inch, 300 ppi display and waterproof design, the all-new Kindle Oasis is our most advanced Kindle ever". Whether you want to read in the bath, the swimming pool or even in the rain- you name it- Amazon's latest Kindle can withstand being plummeted into two meters of water for up to 60 minutes.
Say goodbye to your waterproof cases, those damp books and those pesky electrical faults, the new Kindle Oasis has IPX8 waterproofing on its exterior, and it really is better than ever.
As well as a high-resolution Paperwhite display, thin ergonomic design and waterproofing, Amazon say that - like the original Oasis - the new eReaders will boast a battery life "measured in weeks, not hours". The device was the slimmest and lightest e-reader by the brand at the time. Waterproofing has always been an omission on Kindle e-readers, and will now let people read at the beach or in the bath tub without worrying about damage, Amazon said. The all-new Kindle Oasis comes with 8GB storage, which has twice the storage as the first Kindle Oasis and can hold thousands of titles.
This Oasis e-book reader supports public and private WiFi networks or hotspots that use the 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11n standard with support for WEP, WPA and WPA2 security using password authentication or WiFi Protected Setup (WPS). The company is partnering with Vodafone for 3G connectivity in India. The Kindle Oasis can be connected to wireless headphones or wireless speakers via Bluetooth. The $44.99 fabric cover is available in Charcoal, Indigo, or Sandstone, and the $59.99 leather cover comes in Merlot, Midnight, and Saddle Tan.
The Amazon Kindle Oasis with 8GB storage and Wi-Fi has been priced at Rs 21,999, while the 32GB variant that comes with Wi-Fi + 3G connectivity is being offered for Rs 28,999. The device integrates Amazon's Audible audiobook service, which is a first for a Kindle.
