The Election Commission on Thursday announced that Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections will be held on November 9 and votes will be counted on December 18.

According to reports says AK Joti stated on Gujarat polls that "without doubt", be held in December this year.

It is the first times that VVPAT machines will be used in a state assembly elections, the step was taken by the election commision after the uproar by Opposition parties over the alleged use of faulty EVMs in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The EC also said that the elction would be conducted in single phase. Counting of votes will be held on December 18.

Joti, who was flanked by Election Commissioners O P Rawat and Sunil Arora, said the last date for filing of nominations is October 23.

Joti said the model code of conduct in Himachal Pradesh comes into effect immediately under which the state government can not take policy decisions. Former Election Commissioner SY Qureshi said in a tweet that the voters won't get a slip. CEC said that they had only visited Gujarat couple of days back and the schedule will be chalked up after getting feedbacks from all stakeholders.

Around 49.05 lakh voters will exercise their franchise. EC said that voter assembly booths will be set up in all centres. Also, bulk SMSes and voice messages on phone will come in the purview of election advertisements, Joti added.

The official said the reason the voting date for Himachal was fixed for November (resulting in a large gap with counting of votes) is due to the consideration of weather.
