ECP has issued orders to the authorities to present Imran Khan before the commission on October 26
In August, the ECP had issued a second show-cause notice to Imran Khan after he failed to reply to the earlier notice regarding the contempt of court proceedings against him.
As per the recent reports, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has a non-bailable arrest warrant against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.
PTI spokesperson Naeemul Haq said the party will challenge the warrant in the Islamabad High Court, Dawn news reported.
A larger bench of the court, comprising Justice Aamer Farooq, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, observed on Wednesday, that it would hear the case only after the ECP gives its decision.
Following this, the Bench has ordered authorities to arrest Imran Khan and present him before the commission on Oct 26.
Khan's lawyer Babar Awan says he will again appeal the motion before the High Court.
Before this also, on September 14th, the election commission had issued a bailable warrant against Imran Khan, however, the same was later suspended on PTI's petition.
The ECP had issued the contempt notice to Khan on January 24 over his "scandalous remarks" about the commission. Babar Awan, Chief Counsel of PTI told media that the EC has issued a fresh warrant in the same case in which it has already suspended another warrant last month.
Several times since then, Imran has accused the ECP, among other government bodies, of being compromised and working for the benefit of Nawaz Sharif, the former prime minister and head of the ruling party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
