Super Eagles Franco-German tactician Gernot Rohr, yesterday paid glowing tribute to all the players and officials of the Super Eagles following the team's qualification to play at next year's World Cup finals in Russian Federation.

The coach believes some of the current players in the Super Eagles are not the materials he would rely on for a successful campaign in the World Cup finals in Russian Federation, adding that he has the ambition of surpassing Nigeria's previous performance in the event.

"It is a very important position for any team".

"At the beginning of the qualifying series, many people said we were going to be chased out. But we sat down together and promised ourselves that we would go all out and get the ticket".

Superdeporte.es reports that the coach, who has a win record of one in four games since taking over from George Leekens when the Belgian resigned in February, has already returned to Spain.

"Now, we should be talking about Grade A global friendly matches for the team to put the players in shape and not just any friendly matches".

Idowu plays for Russian side Amkar Perm, and even though he qualifies to represent Russia, he was interested in switching allegiance to Nigeria before their first game against Algeria.

He added that the Eagles were determined to qualify for the World Cup.

"That match was a big wake-up call for us".

"We've been to a few World Cups in recent years, and we need to be looking at progressing further - rather than crashing out in the early stages", Olofinjana told newsmen in Uyo. Age is but a number.
