Sensex up 53 points; realty, healthcare stocks major gainers
Correcting m-cap figure in para 11) Mumbai, Oct 12 (PTI) In a show of strength, the Sensex today leapt more than 348 points - its biggest one-day rise in three months - to close at 32,182, taking in its stride increased prospects of an imminent United States interest rate hike.
A total of 62 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 8 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the BSE closed above the psychologically important 32,000-mark.
At 11.30 AM: Sensex zooms over 102 points or 0.32% at 31,936.31 while the wider Nifty was up by over 37 points or 0.37% at 10,022.05.
The BSE market breadth was bearish - 1,840 declines and 918 advances.
TCS stocks gained about 2 per cent while Reliance Industries stocks climbed 4 per cent ahead of its quarterly results tomorrow.
A firm trend was seen in Asia while Europe also opened higher, boosted by another record show on Wall Street. Coal India, Hindustan Petroleum, and Kotak Mahindra bank lost more than 0.6% each in the opening trade on Thursday morning. Both indexes ended at their highest since September 21. Metal and pharma stocks led the rally with Nifty Metal and Nifty Pharma sub-indices gaining 2 per cent and 1.5 per cent respectively.
