U.S. believes current North Korea nuclear threat is manageable White House
President Donald Trump is expected to nominate Kirstjen Nielsen to lead the Department of Homeland Security, filling a vacancy left by current White House chief of staff John Kelly when he left DHS in July, multiple outlets reported Wednesday.
Nielsen is an expert in homeland and national security policy and strategy, with a focus on critical infrastructure protection, according to her biography on GWU's Center for Cyber & Homeland Security.
Kirstjen Nielsen, left, will be nominated to replace her former boss, John Kelly, as Secretary of Homeland Security. But he would also remove from his White House a person who brought a regimented style to a freewheeling and often dysfunctional West Wing, much to the chagrin of some senior officials and people close to the president who chafed under her dictates.
Before being named DHS chief of staff in January, Nielsen was the president of Sunesis Consulting, a risk and security management consulting firm.
The White House will nominate Kirstjen Nielsen to head the Department of Homeland Security, a senior USA government official confirmed to FedScoop.
If confirmed by the Senate, Nielsen would take the reins at a sprawling department with more than 240,000 employees that is responsible for US border and airport security, immigration policy, disaster response, refugee admissions and other matters. While two of those people cautioned that the president could always change his mind before a formal announcement, the others said the decision was slated to be announced formally Thursday. The White House had no immediate comment. Duke recently got into some controversy when she said that the hurricane response effort in Puerto Rico was a "good news story". The department also is responsible for USA border security. She previously worked as a special assistant to George W. Bush and for the Transportation Security Administration.

Amazon says the service is for 13 to 17-year-olds, but Carr told the WSJ they're open to kids of all ages using the service. If parents want to give their teen more autonomy, they can skip the approval step altogether and just set spending limits.
