Facebook Online Order Food Delivery App

It's part of Facebook's attempt to get you to stay within the clutches of its app empire, rather than allowing you loose to do something as mundane as feed yourself.

Users can find the new option "Order Food" in the Explore menu in the Facebook app, where you can then browse area restaurants and click "Start Order" when you know what you want. That's right, you don't even need to exit the app or change your web browser to send pizza, a bread bowl, or a burrito straight to your couch.

"Once you decide you're hungry, let's take you from that decision to food in your hand", Himmel told Business Insider, saying that Facebook was targeting people who are already seeking out restaurants instead of impulse buys. Facebook's VP of Local Alex Himel explains, "From local spots to national chains, Facebook connects you with old favourites and new discoveries in just a few taps".

So how exactly does it work?

The company is partnering with existing services Delivery.com, DoorDash, ChowNow, Zuppler, EatStreet, Slice, and Olo - not Seamless - and will now link out to those food ordering businesses for restaurants that support them. Here's how the feature, which just rolled out to Facebook users in the USA, will work.

Talk about a one-stop shop. They can also order directly from restaurants including Papa John's, Wingstop, Panera, Jack in the Box, TGI Friday's, Denny's, El Pollo Loco, Chipotle, Five Guys and Jimmy John's. The company announced today that users in the USA can use the platform to order food for takeout and delivery.

It'll be available in the United States only, at least initially, through Facebook's mobile apps for iOS and Android, and through your desktop browser.

That "we've been working on this for a year" bit surprised me.
