Iran and Guinea are considered the least fancied teams in the FIFA U-17 World Cup but they will be hoping to make a big impact
German coach Christian Wuck admitted that his team was under great pressure against Guinea in the Federation Internationale de Football Association under-17 World Cup here on Friday.
They first beat Guinea and went on the stun Germany in the second match before making the light work of Costa Rica.
Even a draw may see Germany through to the Round of 16 but they would want a win against Guinea as that will give them some confidence which has been shattered by Iran.
In an open game, Germany led after eight minutes through Jann-Fiete Arp only for Ibrahima Soumah to level matters just before the half-hour mark with his second of the tournament. Costa Rica's best chance fell to Julien Cordero who blasted wide from close range, attempting to score after the promising Yecxy Jarquin drew Ali Gholam Zadeh to a rare but spectacular save midway through the second half.
"The reactions in Germany were not so good after the last game, so the pressure on my players was enormous".
The coach also hailed young keeper Camara for his wonderful performance and added: "The goals were due to the errors from the defence, and am happy with the keeper's performance in the tournament".
Looking forward to the Round of 16 game against Colombia in Delhi, the German coach said their opponents are very strong.
Germany overcame Guinea 3-1 in a Group C game to enter the pre-quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup here on Friday.
Iran will definitely miss the services of Mohammad Ghobeishavi for their round of 16 clash as he received the second yellow card in the last three games, that hands him a one-match suspension.
Keen to top the group, Asian powerhouse Iran employed five defenders and kept the rival attackers at bay, while finding the back of the net on three occasions.
"Of course, we got nine points, but the most important thing is that we are in the next round". That boils down to beating Costa Rica to guarantee topping the group."Goa is a good omen for us", the stoic Chamanian said , As Reported By TOI. "First we have to sleep and recuperate over the next two days".
Costa Rica, who needed a win to keep themselves in fray for the knockouts, found the going tough and were not allowed space by the Iranian defenders. The German coach hailed the pitch at Kochi and said the "pitch could be compared to European standards, and the players were able to play better here".
After the match, Guinean coach Souleymane Camara accepted that the better team won the match. But I think my players are very strong and very fast.
