Former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Scholes has been interviewed for the vacant manager's job at League One Oldham Athletic.

Oldham have been without a manager since John Sheridan left on September 25.

Scholes won 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups, five Community Shields and two Champions Leagues.

According to several media reports, the League One outfit is keen to make Scholes their manager, although no official confirmation has come from the club.

Scholes, who retired from professional football in May 2013 after a 20-year career with Manchester United, has been a frequent attendee at Boundary Park over the past few seasons and lives locally.

"They are a really good family club who mean a great deal to a lot of people - myself included".

The Manchester United legend and current caretaker manager Richie Wellens are the leading candidates for the role. Scholes was offered the Oldham job in 2015, but the 42-year-old decided the time was not right.

Scholes has been linked with the Latics before, only for nothing to materialise, while he worked with the club's youth team in order to gain his UEFA A Licence.

At the time of writing Oldham are 19th in the third-tier and face Blackburn on Saturday looking to record their fourth win on the spin for the first time since August 2008 (in all competitions).
