Harry Redknapp and Arsene Wenger both have managed Paul Merson

He is tactically astute, he motivates his plays to work tirelessly for the cause, and his input has been proven in their defensive success this year.

Speaking at Thursday's press conference, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reacted to former player Paul Merson's comments after he recently said the Gunners could win the league with Harry Redknapp in charge, the Evening Standard report.

"Arsenal haven't scored on the road in their three PL games so far this term and, whilst I think they will find the back of the Watford net, I think they might have to settle for a point at Vicarage Road against a progressive Hornets' side", Owen told Bet Victor. We were 2-0 down at half-time and it could've been 10-0. "But I have got more potential to get better and I want to show that in the coming games".

Meanwhile, Welsh League Division Three team Caerau have received global clearance to play Merson, who is attempting to make an unlikely comeback to football at the age of 49.

"That's when I knew he was a great manager".

Caerau secretary Dai Hooper confirmed that all the required paperwork had now come through which will make Merson available for the home match against Pontyclun on October 18.

The Gunners have won the FA Cup three times in the last four years, but Merson, who has played under both managers, believes that if the Gunners had Redknapp at their helm, they would have had a title to tag along with other trophies.

"People who have managed altogether zero games, they teach everybody how you should behave".

"The worldwide clearance has just come through this morning", Hooper said. "It's always hard to predict the situation because the player I least expected to lose during the break was Mustafi".

"Paul said he is having a little run out in a friendly game for someone to get himself a bit of fitness and is really looking forward to it".

It may well be that we see a very youthful squad travel to Belgrade in the week when Arsenal take on Red Star.
