Brennan Says It's 'Puzzling' Why Trump Keeps Downplaying Russia Interference

Putin Speaks Directly To Separatists Leaders, Presses Prisoner Swap

Brennan said Trump's inability to say unequivocally Russia interfered in the the United States election, and tell Russian President Vladimir Putin that there will be consequences if he attempts it again, is harming the US.

"I'm reluctant to criticise the president when he's overseas, but I don't believe Putin. Obama tried also, but he had zero chemistry with Putin". "It appeals to him and I think it plays to his insecurities and yes, both the Chinese and Russians think they can play him".

To the editor: On Veterans Day, in Vietnam, where we lost 58,000 courageous American soldiers, Trump met with Putin, the autocratic leader of America's greatest adversary.

Trump spent time with Putin at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Vietnam last week, which led him to suggest he believes Putin instead of U.S. intelligence agencies on the issue of Kremlin election interference - though he would later backtrack on that suggestion. So did former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who appeared on "State of the Union" at Brennan's side. According to trump, Putin denies the Kremlin's meddling in American elections during each of their meetings and looks very hurt.

MSNBC's "Morning Joe" puzzled over President Donald Trump "cozying up to Vladimir Putin" over the weekend despite the indictments and guilty pleas of campaign associates in the Russian Federation investigation. A special counsel and several congressional committees are investigating whether his campaign colluded with Moscow. No less an authority than Mike Pompeo, the President Trump-appointed Central Intelligence Agency director, has said there is certainty about Russian meddling.

It's remarkable to hear top intelligence officials, who value discretion more than most, bluntly characterizing the president of the United States as vulnerable to the flattery and deception of foreign dictators. "I believe that [Putin] feels that he and Russian Federation did not meddle in the election".

During his interview Monday, Biden also addressed rumors that he will attempt a run for president in 2020.
