Didier Drogba Announces Retirement from Football

The former Ivory Coast worldwide enjoyed the best years of his career at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea and is sure to go down as one of the greatest ever players for the Blues.

The former Chelsea star is now playing for United Soccer League side Phoenix Rising FC, who he also co-owns.

In nine years at Stamford Bridge - over two spells - the forward scored 164 times for the Blues, including a crucial goal and the winning penalty as they won the Champions League in 2012.

Speaking to RMC (h/t Ian Holyman of ESPN FC) the Ivorian icon said the next campaign with Phoenix Rising FC, where he is the player-owner, will be the last before he retires.

World footballing icon Didier Drogba has announced he will be retiring from playing at the end of the current American season.




"Ah, do you want a scoop?"

Drogba has been in good form in the USL this term, scoring 10 times in his 14 appearances since the turn of the year, and will hope to finish on a high.

Didier Drogba has revealed Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's defiant response when confronted over the number of managers he has sacked at Stamford Bridge.

"I think next year will be my last season", he admitted. I need to have time for my other projects'.

He left Chelsea in the summer of 2015 to move to America and spent two seasons with Montreal Impact in the MLS.
