The Hornets issued a hands-off warning after the managerless Toffees made an approach on Monday.

It is also claimed that Silva is happy at Vicarage Road and is not interested in heading to Everton where the pressure will be on nearly immediately.

Since parting ways with Dutchman Ronald Koeman towards the end of last month, the Toffees - now in the hands of David Unsworth on an interim basis - have been linked with a number of possible replacements, such as Sam Allardyce, Sean Dyche and Diego Simeone.

His club are in line to be promoted to the Premier League next summer and lead the Championship standings after taking 35 points from 16 games.

Silva only arrived at Vicarage Road in the summer after failing to keep Hull in the Premier League last season. They are now languishing in 15th position with 11 points from 11 games.

Everton are now assessing their options and considering whether it is worth stepping up their pursuit of Silva.

Silva is reportedly one of the managers on Everton's radar as a result of getting Watford to play an impressive brand of football this season.

And now, the news has gone from bad to worse, with Sky Sports reporting that both Marco Silva and Sam Allardyce - the two prime candidates - will not take the job; albeit for different reasons.

Watford's last game was a 3-2 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park, which saw the Merseyside club claim their first win under Unsworth as well as move out of the relegation zone.

Sean Dyche is another who has been regularly linked with the role, but apparently still no contact has been made between the Toffees and the Burnley boss.
