Braxton Beverly has been cleared by the NCAA to play immediately for N.C. State after transferring from Ohio State in the summer, Beverly's attorney announced Tuesday.
The announcement ends a monthslong process of waiver requests and appeals after Beverly, an incoming freshman, made a decision to transfer from Ohio State after Thad Matta's abrupt firing this summer.
Beverly will play Tuesday night against Bryant, the school said.
The NCAA finally acceded to NC State, Braxton Beverly and public sentiment.
The transfer rule has been waved a fair amount for extenuating circumstances-all Penn State football players were permitted to transfer and compete right away after the Jerry Sandusky scandal, for example, and the sit-out rule is often waved if a player is moving closer to home to be with a sick loved one.
Based off the NCAA's tweet, the Ohio State transfer is eligible to play Tuesday vs. Bryant. He is very grateful. Wolfpack assistant A.W. Hamilton coached Beverly last season at Hargrave.
"Through all of this, I am still happy with the decision to come to NC State".
Beverly was denied immediate eligibility after leaving Ohio State following Thad Matta's resignation. Beverly was taking summer school classes when Matta was let go.
The NCAA recently denied an appeal, leading to the school's request for reconsideration last week.
N.C. State announced October 13 that its initial request for Beverly's eligibility was denied, and it appealed that decision 10 days later. "It was the right choice for a young man caught in a hard situation not of his own making".
