Two militants killed in Kashmir encounter

DIG North Kashmir, VK Birdi said that two militants were killed after they lobbed a grenade and fired on a police naka party in Sultanpora, Zacheldara in Handwara today evening.

A police spokesman said the slain militants were identified as Toib of Sopore and Ashiq of Palhallan Pattan.

The official said bodies of two militants have been recovered and their identification was being ascertained.




"Many cordon and search operations have been conducted in Hajin area to trap him but he has managed to give slip to security forces so far", they said.

The security forces are going after militants as part of operation "hunt down" and on the basis of a hit list of militants.

The gun battle ensued after the terrorists opened fire on a joint team of police, Army and the Central Reserve Police Force at Galganzer village, prompting the forces to retaliate. "The militants in north are mostly foreigners", he told DH.
