Sophie Turner Is on Fire in X-Men: Dark Phoenix First Look
Dark Phoenix, her own spinoff movie partially based on the comic by Chris Claremont, gives an even deeper look at her character's uncontrollable, and sometimes destructive, telepathic abilities.
The famous Dark Phoenix saga follows the powerful telepath Jean Grey as she is overtaken by a formidable dark force that unleashes her telepathic and telekinetic potential, but threatens to destroy her persona in the process.
Sophie Turner graces the cover as a seemingly nude Jean Grey, save for the fire that looks set to burst from her very skin. At this point, we have no idea if we'll be seeing things as insane as the fight on the Blue Area of the moon, but Kinberg did say he's been wanting to tell his version of this story ever since his plans to go further with Dark Phoenix in X-Men: The Last Stand were scrapped by the studio. Check out the EW cover with the first look at Turner below. But his growing ego puts the team at risk.
Featuring numerous same mutant characters from Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix looks to take the franchise to new and exciting places (including outer space!), while continuing the saga of the young Professor X, Magneto and Mystique that began in X-Men: First Class. In addition to the beauty of the visual effects, James McAvoy has called Dark Phoenix, "the most emotional X-Men we've done and the most pathos-driven", which makes for an interesting balance and may ease the minds of fans who worry about tackling the Dark Phoenix on the big screen. A "major twist" occurs halfway through the film, and indeed here we see a funeral attended by Charles (James McAvoy), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPHee), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), and Storm (Alexandra Shipp), so who dies?
That dog, one imagines, is Jean Grey/Phoenix, and Chastain's character likely advocates killing her entirely rather than trying to bring Jean Grey back. Dark Phoenix will hit theaters on November 2nd, 2018, and will have Simon Kinberg at the helm. "What happens when the person you love the most falls into darkness?"
