Ford Fired By Morgan Stanley In Harassment Investigation
A spokeswoman for Morgan Stanley confirmed Ford's firing, telling the publication he was terminated "for conduct inconsistent with our values and in violation of our policies".
Morgan Stanley has fired former U.S. Democratic lawmaker Harold Ford, Jr., a managing director at the Wall Street bank, for inappropriate conduct, a spokeswoman said on Thursday.
One woman, who does not work for Morgan Stanley but interacted with Ford professionally, told HuffPo that she was interviewed as part of a human resources investigation into Ford's alleged misconduct. The incident took place several years ago when Ford and the woman were supposed to be meeting for professional reasons.
The report includes details of an email the woman sent to the former Tennessee politician, asking him to cease contact because of the harassment.
Ford made an unsuccessful bid for a Senate seat in 2006 but was defeated by Republican Sen.
According to the complaint, Ford engaged in sexual misconduct toward one women, including once grabbing her in the lobby of a building and routinely harassing her afterward.
"False claims like this undermine the real silence breakers", Ford said in a statement, published via social media by HuffPost reporter Yashar Ali.
HuffPost is not identifying the woman at her request but has reviewed emails that confirm her interactions with Ford and spoke to two people whom the woman confided in about the incident.
Ford regularly appears on MSNBC's "Morning Joe", where now-disgraced political reporter Mark Halperin was also a frequent guest.
Ford succeeded his father - Harold Ford Sr. - as the congressman for the heavily-Democratic Ninth Congressional District in 1996.
Before joining Morgan Stanley in 2011, Ford worked for Merrill Lynch and Co. Inc. During that campaign, a negative political ad aimed at Ford Jr. caused a firestorm when it mentioned his attendance at a 2005 Superbowl party hosted by Playboy.
