IDF strikes Gaza targets after rockets launched at Israel

Haniyya Slams American Decision, Calls For Massive Intifada In Palestine

Two rockets were launched at Israel from Gaza on Thursday night, but fell short of their mark and landed inside the coastal enclave, the army said.

Later, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Twitter that at least two missiles were launched from the Gaza Strip, but did not reach the country.

No terrorist group immediately took responsibility for the attack.

Earlier, photographs from Gaza had shown the military lighting up parts of the territory with flares.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, some 2,147 Palestinians were killed during the 51-day Israeli offensive on Gaza in 2014, including 72 who later succumbed to their wounds.

Protests broke out in Gaza and the West Bank and Jerusalem after US President Donald Trump chose to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Rallies, demonstrations and protests dominated the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip against Trump's declaration. The protesters also clashed with Israeli security forces firing tear gas and stun grenades, as well as rubber bullets and live ammunition.

In a Wednesday address from the White House, Trump defied worldwide warnings and insisted that after repeated failures to achieve peace a new approach was long overdue, describing his decision to recognize Jerusalem as the seat of Israel's government as merely based on reality.

Haniyya called on the Palestinian government "to support the armed resistance factions, to continue the struggle against the Israeli occupation", in response to the American decision, to move the US embassy to occupied Jerusalem, and the USA claim that the city is the capital of Israel.
