News Anchor Responds To Viewer's Racist Email

Former Channel 19 Anchor Sharon Reed Responds to Atlanta Viewer Who Called Her N-Word
"So I won't mischaracterize your view either, Kathy Rae", Reed said.
"'"(Y) ou need to be fired for the race baiting comment you made tonight (.) (I) t's o.k. for blacks to discuss certain subjects but not whites, really???. you are a racist Niger", the email stated, misspelling the offending word.
The anchor said the email "mischaracterized" her views on race, and that "quite the contrary, we think that race is an authentic discussion to have".
The response came the same day as the mayoral election in Atlanta, where Keisha Lance Bottoms and Mary Norwood faced off in a tight race that was likely heading to a recount Wednesday morning.
Sharon Reed, who co-anchor the local CBS46 news, called out viewer Kathy Rae live on air Tuesday for calling her the N-word. I get it. On 5 December, 2017, you think it's OK to call this journalist a "n****r".
A TV news anchor has shut down a racist viewer live on air, and the footage is one of the most satisfying things I've seen in a while. I don't. I could clap back and say a few things to you but instead I'll let your words, Kathy Rae, speak for themselves. At one point, the discussion turned to Atlanta's racial demographics, which prompted Reed to bring up a viewer's derogatory message.
As for the advice she'd give aspiring Black journalists who may face similar criticism as she did with Kathy Rae, Reed said young reporters shouldn't feel like they have to own it. "And that'll be the last word", Reed said. "It's also worth noting that Bottoms was the default Democrat in the nonpartisan race and Norwood was a closet Republican". No. 1: You mischaracterize what I said. Atlanta has had black mayors since the 1970s. "Because we do try to keep it real here and I think we do a very good job of it".
Though Reed has kept somewhat mum on the matter since the newscast ended, the same can't be said for netizens.
Kathie Rae didn't want Reed talking about race, but Reed wasn't backing down.
She cautioned against mischaracterizing other people's words.
But Reed has no regrets, except not telling her crew to show the full email.

Brooklyn shipped out Trevor Booker and obtained a pick in the process, but the exchange leaves Sean Kilpatrick as the odd man out. He now joins D'Angelo Russell, the No. 2 pick in that draft, on a Nets roster with some intriguing young talent.
