TPCAST Unveils the “TPCAST Plus,” a Comprehensive Upgrade of its Commercial Wireless VR Technology
The newer version comes with higher resolution display and in built headphones.
This news was also confirmed by HTC and it will continue to be compatible with HTV Vive boxes and wands. Other advances include dual microphones with active noise cancellation and dual front-facing cameras meant to permit developer ingenuity.
While the likes of LG, Samsung and Sony stole the spotlight on Monday at CES 2018, HTC sneaked in a surprise announcement of its own before the day was over.
The Vive Pro is an upgraded version of the Vive, while the Vive Wireless Adaptor accessory finally gets rid of the dragging cables that have annoyed me since I first put on an Oculus Rift DK1.
HTC also showed off the new Vive Wireless Adaptor, a T-shaped device that attaches to the Vive or Vive Pro's head strap and wirelessly connects the headset to your computer.
"There's a clear need in the VR market for a premium VR experience with high resolution display, integrated audio and the best components available today in a headset", Daniel O'Brien, general manager of HTC's VIVE in the US market, said in a statement.
"It's great to see HTC come forward and improve device specs", said Brian Blau, an analyst at Gartner.
This cutting-edge wireless VR solution requires low latency transmission for 3K/4K high definition video in a speed of 90 frames per second.
The next generation of headsets might include even more advanced technologies like eye-tracking, which could allow ultra high resolution rendering of graphics at the exact point on the screen where users are looking. The adapter also includes software optimizations and microphone support.
Perhaps just as important as the new headset is the Vive Wireless Adaptor that utilizes Intel's WiGig technology to stream video over the 60 GHz band.
"Wireless VR has been on almost every VR user's wishlist since the technology was unveiled", Frank Soqui, general manager Virtual Reality Group at Intel Corporation said.
Worldwide sales of Vive Wireless adapter will start tentatively in the third quarter of 2018. The Vive Pro impressed me with its sharpness, and now stands as the most crisp VR experience I've tried. HTC says that the Wireless Adaptor will be available in Q3, while further availability information regarding the Vive Pro will arrive "soon" (which is as detailed as the company would get).
