CES 2018: ASUS Announces the ROG Spotlight
ASUS also features other high-refresh devices such as the ROG Strix Scar Edition with the 144 Hz panel, and GTX 1070 graphics, along with the FX503 laptop, which is a 15.6-inch model with a 120 Hz refresh and GTX 1060 GPU. As a reward, League game designers have crafted champion skins named after and inspired by SKT T1 team members, but it's the first time that hardware has jumped into the mix. The Flare will also be available in one of the latest additions to the Cherry MX line up announced previous year, the Cherry MX silver design which features a shorter actuation point of only 1.2mm and a maximum travel distance of 3.4mm; for reference the Cherry MX red switch has a 2mm actuation point and a 4mm total travel distance.
"This gaming laptop is ideal for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games players such as League of Legends, and it marks the collaboration between Republic of Gamers and SKT T1", said Sang-Hyeok Lee, better known as Faker. The new lineup consists of Strix SKT T1 Hero Edition laptop, Strix GL12 desktop and Strix Flare mechanical keyboard.
The ROG G703 is available now for $3499 United States dollars. It features a factory-overclocked Core i7 8th generation CPU, with up to 4.8 GHz on all six cores. You'll find dedicated media keys, a volume wheel, and USB pass-through for connecting another peripheral (like a gaming mouse). The ROG Strix Flare features full RGB lighting and Cheryy MX switches. The backlit keys are individually programmable and there is a swappable, illuminated acrylic insert emblazoned with the ROG badge. The ROG Aura Terminal is a quad-channel addressable RGB controller that can enable synchronised lighting throughout your system.
ASUS ROG Lights Up CES With Strix SKT T1 Laptop, Strix GL12 Desktop, And Aura-Infused Gear
Rounding out Asus' new stuff is the ROG Spotlight, an accessory that looks like a webcam but instead projects Asus' ROG logo onto a wall or other surface. Connecting the displays via the long lens strips at that angle allows light to be refracted across the area that would house the screens' bezels, and the image from the connecting monitors to be blended together to create the illusion of a bezel-less, seamless screen.
Finally, there's the Bezel-Free Kit accessory, which attempts to "visually eliminate the gaps" in a multi-monitor setup. Using light refraction, the monitor edges will disappear.
ASUS has not yet announced pricing for the ROG Strix GL12, but it will ship in April. It features a matte-black aluminum finish, and magnetic base.
