I guess when you live in a Russian town near the Arctic Circle, it's not as surprising to see someone driving around in an armored personnel carrier.

The man stole the tank-like vehicle on caterpillar tracks from a military driving school in the far northern Murmansk region, RIA Novosti news agency cited a traffic police spokeswoman as saying.

The man reportedly had trouble turning the tank around while rolling down a narrow street, and crashed into the storefront, running over a parked auto in the process.

The man had stolen the vehicle from a nearby base of a state paramilitary organization, the Volunteer Society for Cooperation with the Army, Aviation and Navy, FlashNord reported. It's also quite impressive he managed to drive it and only smash one vehicle (and a supermarket shopfront) in the process.

Onlookers didn't seem particularly concerned about the sight of a military machine on the sidewalk.

Police said they detained the man and found him to be drunk.

Witnesses said that a 29-year-old man crashed through the window of a Semya supermarket after the vehicle, owned by an official paramilitary organisation, emerged from woodland and hit a auto. The Independent notes "the shop was not licensed to sell alcohol that early in the morning".
