Europe experiences deadly Storm Eleanor havoc
The Met Office said the temperature was likely to fall to as low as -10C (14F) in Scotland, gradually warming to -3C in the south of England on Saturday night.
Storm Eleanor has brought chaos to Europe, after first hitting the United Kingdom with 100mph (160kmph) winds and heavy rain.
The Met Office had issued an amber "be prepared" warning of wind for the southern-most fringes of the country overnight, which has expired. There was no severe flood warning - the most critical level - in the UK.
Storm Eleanor is expected to carry on through until tomorrow and was the first named storm of 2018.
Christened Storm Burglind in Germany, roofs were ripped from homes and transport was disrupted when the country was hit by gusts of more than 75mph (120kmph).
An amber warning was also issued for parts of the Republic of Ireland as well.
Gusts of 100mph were recorded at Great Dunn Fell, near Penrith, in the early hours of this morning.
The national weather agency has extended its top-level Orange alert for winds of up to 200 km/h (124 mph) and high waves to 51 departments as the storm continues.
The risky conditions could lead to injuries and a danger of life, as materials and objects go flying.
