Mini is flaunting its Britishness with a midlife facelift for its Mini hatchback and Convertible models, which now receive a Union Jack motif in the taillights, along with other minor design tweaks inside and out, additional features and a new dual-clutch gearbox option. First off, there's the new Mini logo. The mini One First and Mini One get 1.5L 3-cylinder engines with 160 and 190Nm of torque and increased boost pressure.
Inside, all models feature a 6.5in touchscreen infotainment system and an updated steering wheel features improved multifunction controls.
In the United States, engine choices are limited to two petrol models, the Cooper and the Cooper S. The first one comes with a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter unit delivering 134 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels while the latter features a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine that pushes out 189 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. Expect to see the updated Mini in Canadian showrooms some time in the spring.
Connectivity continues as a theme for the 2019 upgrades, with available real-time traffic information via 4G LTE, Apple CarPlay, and the Mini Connected app now integrating navigation and calendaring. In addition to the six-speed manual that comes as standard, MINI offers the new seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch automatic as an option for the One, Cooper, Cooper S, and Cooper D. The Cooper SD, meanwhile, comes with an eight-speed Steptronic as standard. MINI has also integrated a storage compartment in the centre armrest console for wireless charging of phones.
