Oregonians Come to Terms with Pumping Their Own Gas
It attracted some news coverage but did not, as the Detroit Free Press claimed, "send shock waves across all 98,000-plus square miles and all 4 million residents".
A new law will permit self-serving gas stations in rural areas of the state of Oregon.
The CBS affiliate in Medford took to Facebook to ask their viewers to weigh in on the change, the post went viral, garnering some 43,000 comments, and many of those commenters voiced displeasure at having to pump their own gas.
In New Jersey, a violation of the self-pumping law will elicit a fine between $50 and $250 for first offense, and up to $500 for subsequent offenses.
"I don't even know HOW to pump gas and I am 62, native Oregonian", added Sandy Franklin. "I say NO THANKS!", one punter wrote angrily in response to a news story about the change, despite it not in fact being a poll. "I don't want to smell like gas", one person wrote. And Oregon State economist Patrick Emerson myth-busts some dumb justifications for full-service mandates. This [is] a service only qualified people should perform.
People across the USA are getting in on the fun, too.
I'm always happy to beat down on the perpetual silliness of my home state of Wackyfornia, but from time to time it is important to point out that our neighbor to the north-Oregon-is in many ways crazier than California, and has been for a long long time.
"I've lived in this state all my life and I REFUSE to pump my own gas", Mike Perrone, another Facebook user, posted. Now, self-service is the norm across Tennessee and in most states.
At least several Oregonians are freaking out about the new law. This exceptional individual will have never traveled to another state where there aren't any self-service gas stations; doesn't own a vehicle or drive, or has someone (a spouse) take care of these tedious matters.
The original law was put into place in 1951. Most of the rationale for the law is safety, though. "Every year thousands of people are killed by vicious road gangs who are after what little gas we have left".
However, based on the hysterical reaction from some Oregonians, one would think that gas station attendants had been outlawed, leaving residents of OR at the mercy of a "Mad Max" level hellscape in which brutal weather conditions and vicious criminals lurk at every gas station, exulting that the superhero gas station attendants are no longer there to keep them at bay.

Three takeaways from Jaguars' win over Bills
The offense's inability to move the ball well enough and score touchdowns hammered a hard nail into the Bills playoff run. In the opening half, this looked like the type of the game the 2017 Jaguars lost because of inept offensive play.
