Report: Baylor's Matt Rhule interviewed for Colts' head coaching job

Matt Rhule

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Rhule has pulled himself out of consideration for the Colts head coaching job.

Matt Rhule intends to remain head coach at Baylor, rebuffing "serious interest" from the Indianapolis Colts, who interviewed the first-year Bears coach last week. He was an assistant at Temple from 2006-2011, then became the program's head coach from 2013-2016.

"I can certainly tell everyone right now that Matt Rhule is our head football coach, is going to be our head football coach and is excited about being our head football coach", Rhoades said in the interview.

Rhule does have National Football League coaching experience, as he was the Giants' offensive line coach in 2012 when NY defeated the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

Rhule's first season with Baylor yielded lackluster results on the field, but provided hope for the future and a stout recruiting class. Any lack of immediate clarity or lingering concerns on that front may eliminate some bigger name candidates, especially those with an offensive acumen like Patriots' offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

Rhule was interviewed yesterday by the Colts brass to see if he would be a good fit for the head job in Indy.
