Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels not in Bayern Munich squad for Leverkusen trip
Franck Ribery says he would like to extend his 10-year stay at Bayern Munich following his goalscoring performance in the 3-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Friday. Both Ribery and Bayern's other veteran winger Arjen Robben, 34, are out of contract in June and the pair hope to be offered extensions in the coming weeks.
With six goals and four assists, Leverkusen's outstanding player in the first half of the season was 20-year-old Jamaican winger Leon Bailey, who has thrived since joining from Belgian club Genk last January.
"It will be tough at Leverkusen and we will have to give our all to win there", said the Frenchman.
A 14-match unbeaten run has allowed Leverkusen to climb the league table.
"Tactically and defensively my team did it well for long stretches", coach Jupp Heynckes told reporters. The champions re-signed their former youth striker from Hoffenheim this summer.
Heynckes, who led Bayern to the treble in his last stint in 2013, returned for his fourth spell in charge after Carlo Ancelotti was sacked in September for the side's lackluster start. While goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is still recovering from a fractured foot, Mueller wore the captain's armband and Sven Ulreich was in Bayern's goal.
Bayern resume title quest with Leverkusen trip Sport- International
Both Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski and defender Mats Hummels are recovering from knee and groin injuries respectively, while right-back Joshua Kimmich has a cold.
The visitors took the lead in the 32nd minute when Martinez fired in from close range after Leverkusen failed to clear an Arturo Vidal header.
Bayern nullified the attacking threat of Leverkusen's dynamic trio of Julian Brandt, Leon Bailey and Kevin Volland - which was key to their success on the night.
With three minutes gone, Ribery could have opened the scoring for the visitors after finding space inside the box, but his strike sailed over the crossbar.
However Rodriguez, on loan from Real Madrid, showed his class by cooly slotting home a free-kick on the edge of the area after being fouled just outside the box.
