Trump's Personal Lawyer Is Suing BuzzFeed Over That Explosive Russia Dossier

"Even though defendant BuzzFeed expressly acknowledged the unverified (and potentially unverifiable) nature of the dossier's allegations, defendant BuzzFeed published the un-redacted dossier and the article anyway - without attempting to determine the veracity of these reports with plaintiff himself", Cohen wrote in the lawsuit filed Tuesday night in NY state court. Fox News recently reported that a top Department of Justice official met with Mr. Steele during the 2016 campaign.

He made similar allegations against BuzzFeed.

He wrote in the lawsuit that BuzzFeed published the unverified allegations "without attempting to determine the veracity of these reports with plaintiff himself". "Why waste time talking about something that's not legitimate", he said.

"The dossier is, and continues to be, the subject of active investigations by Congress and intelligence agencies. It was presented to two successive presidents, and has been described in detail by news outlets around the world", BuzzFeed News spokesperson Matt Mittenthal said in a statement. "Its interest to the public is obvious", said BuzzFeed spokeswoman Katie Rayford.

Cohen also staunchly denied having engaged in talks about employing Russia-backed hackers.

Chuck Grassley - from an August closed-door interview with Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson. There, they questioned him about the dossier, such as who his sources were and how he knew certain things, Simpson said.

Feinstein said in a statement that Americans deserve to see what Simpson said. However, Fusion GPS did not stop its mission to get the dossier out.

Interestingly, the hearing quickly moved on to the next order of business without anyone elaborating upon this extremely important tidbit.

However, the last straw for Steele with the Federal Bureau of Investigation came after the publish of an October 31, 2016, story in the New York Times that said the FBI was investigating Trump and had "found no connections" to Russian Federation.

Smith's op-ed recounted the dossier's timeline, what BuzzFeed knew at the time they published it and what the country has learned in year since.

Fusion GPS, which is based in Washington, D.C., hired Steele on behalf of its clients, the Clinton campaign and DNC.

Much of the dossier's content, once entirely dismissed by detractors, have been corroborated: former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort's hidden payments from Ukranian interests, Trump's failed business interests in Russia and, of course, the now-infamous 2016 Trump Tower meeting between the president's son, son-in-law, campaign chairman and a ragtag crew of Russians and their allies.

However, as many have pointed out, it does not matter who funded the dossier, considering some of it claims have already been independently substantiated.
