Fodder scam case: Lalu moves Jharkhand High Court against conviction, seeks bail
To ensure that his jail yatra in BJP-ruled Jharkhand neither dented his lifestyle nor put him at any serious discomfort, RJD president and former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav had made arrangements for his helper and masseur-cum-cook to land in prison hours before his own grand arrival in Ranchi's Birsa Munda central jail on December 23, 2017, in connection with a fodder scam case.
"Lalu is in jail to save his illegally acquired wealth".
The court convicted Lalu Prasad and 15 others on December 23 in the case relating to the multi-million-rupee scam. The RJD boss was on bail in this case when he was convicted and sentenced in the one related to fraudulent withdrawal of government funds in the Deoghar case.
"We have filed a case in the court of first class judicial magistrate Avanika Gautam seeking criminal proceedings against Sumit Yadav, who is the nephew of Madan Yadav".
Reports in a section of the media have alleged that District Magistrate Mannan Akhtar and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bhairpal Singh of Jalaun had called up CBI Special Judge Shivpal Singh to seek favours for the RJD chief in the fodder scam case.
"This shows that Lalu Yadav's commitment to social justice is a sham and he cares only for himself and his family members", said Mr Kumar, a JD (U) MLC.
The sentences range from three-and-a-half-years to seven years imprisonment. The SDM also said that he had never spoken to the CBI judge. Within minutes of the cops at Lower Bazar police station registering the FIR and sending a copy to the Ranchi civil court, Lakshman and Madan reached the court and surrendered.
Last month, the special CBI judge in Ranchi sentenced Lalu to three-and-a-half years jail in a fodder scam case.
On September 30, 2013, Lalu was held guilty in another case of illegal withdrawal of Rs 37.70 crore from the Chaibasa treasury and sentenced for five years.
