The Government of Botswana is wondering why President Trump, must use this descriptor and derogatory word, when talking about countries with whom the United States has had cordial and mutually beneficial bilateral relations for so many years.

Amid the furore the president criticised the immigration proposal.

Q. "If [President Trump] did in fact say what's being alleged, how would that stack up against... incendiary comments that other presidents have made?"

He reiterated his call for ending chain migration and the lottery route to immigration. "Made up by Dems", Trump wrote.

He was referring to comments reportedly made by Trump during a meeting on Thursday with lawmakers about immigration reform, demanding to know why the United States should accept citizens from "shithole" countries.

Trump later denied using the vulgar phrase, but said he used "tough" language at the meeting. On Monday, the department took that same action against immigrants from El Salvador, another country reportedly mentioned at an immigration meeting Thursday. He also blamed "both sides" after a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, turned violent.

But in another tweet on Friday the president denied that he insulted Haitians.

His remarks have quickly spread around the world, provoking strong reactions, including those from the United Nations.

El Salvador, also facing an end to protected status for its 200,000 citizens living in the United States, sent a formal letter of protest to the USA government over the comments.

If Trump can use his vile brand of "tough language" about entire nations of people, he should be willing to listen when somebody throws words like "racist" and "ignorant" right back at him, right?

The group's mission in Washington DC expressed its "shock, dismay and outrage" and said the Trump administration misunderstood Africans. "Ours is not a shithole country".

"Kenya is one of the fastest growing countries in Africa", he said.

Following an emergency session of the African diplomats, Pobee added that the group "is concerned at the continuing and growing trend from the U.S. administration towards Africa and people of African descent to denigrate the continent and people of colour".

According to USA media reports, citing people with knowledge of the conversation, Trump asked during a conversation about immigration: "Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?"

"On behalf of Norway: Thanks, but no thanks", tweeted Torbjoern Saetre, a Norwegian politician on Friday.
